As we begin to gear up for CAW 2024, seven CAW alums have come together to design you some gear – and just in time for the festive season too!

These limited edition t-shirt (and one tote) designs were created by CAW folk Chris Gooch, Leigh Rigozzi, Max Loh, Eleri Harris, Gina Chadderton, Fionn McCabe and Meg O’Shea, and are only available to order from Nov 28th to Dec 10th. And then they’ll be gone! Forever!

All designs will be printed on AS Colour staple tees, with $35 of each purchase going directly to running costs for CAW 2024 (so things like tasty food and metaphorically tasty master artists), with the remainder covering t-shirt material and production costs. If you’re in Aus, choose express shipping to be looking as fresh as hell in one of these by December 25th, or bundle your shipping to get multiple tees and give the gift of freshness to loved ones.

CAW 2021 residency

In 2021, from November 14-26th, the fourth Comic Art Workshop will be held at Yarrangobilly Caves House, Kosciuszko National Park, NSW, on Wolgalu country.

Yarrangobilly is quite isolated, 45 minutes drive to the nearest town of Talbingo, an hour and a half drive from Cooma, three hours drive from Canberra, five hours from Sydney, six and a half from Melbourne and 39 hours from Perth. The isolation, striking natural environment and lack of phone reception makes it a perfect spot for a workshop residency like CAW. Artists will be able to enjoy the bush, explore the caves, swim in the thermal pool, engage with NSW Park rangers and delve deep into 15 ambitious comics projects away from the distractions of daily life. During the residency, artists will also be encouraged to contribute sketches, writing and comic works inspired by the location at Yarrangobilly for a gallery show and printed book.

The Master Artist for CAW 2021 will be Mandy Ord. Mandy is a Melbourne based cartoonist with nearly 30 years experience making ambitious indie comics projects. In 2020, Mandy’s book When One Person Dies the Whole World Is Over, was longlisted for the Stella Prize. We’re really excited for her to share her wealth of industry knowledge with the Comic Art Workshop.

Alumni Sarah Firth and Georgina Chadderton will be returning with ongoing projects that have been workshopped previously at CAW.

The new artists for 2021 include Claudia Chinyere Akole, Jess Harwood, Kim Lam, Robin Tatlow Lord, Harry Alfred Pitt, Emilie Walsh, Briar Rolfe, Soolagna Majumdar and Lucie Towers.

Joshua Santospirito and Eleri Harris are the current co-directors of the Comic Art Workshop and are supported by the 2021 CAW organisational team, Meg O’Shea, Safdar Ahmed and Can Yalcinkaya.
